Sea Studio: Pen & Paper

liz lamoreux

As light dances on the sand, as storms roll in across the ocean, as the crocuses bloom by the sea, and as the sun peeks out to warm our shoulders, come along and spend five days on the Oregon Coast focused on writing.

This is your invitation to travel to Manzanita, Oregon in February and connect with experienced mentors who will share their thoughts about writing, publishing, and living the writing life.

This is your invitation to breathe in the salt air and eat delicious, nutritious meals and be present to discovering the next step on your path.

This in your invitation to bring whatever stories that are waiting to be told inside you and give yourself the gift of space to simply write.

This is your invitation to bring your current writing project, whatever it might be, and spend time putting pen to paper.

This is your invitation to come along, because this is a retreat for the writer who is you.

(yes you)

This is the first retreat in a new series called the Studio Gatherings. These retreats are inspired by the desire to have a room of our own where we can write, paint, play, and live creative dreams into reality combined with the idea that creative souls crave community with like-minded spirits.

The Pen & Paper mentors who will gather on the coast include:

Kate Inglis

Jenna McGuiggan

Christen Olivarez

(and, well, me)

To learn more about this retreat, including information about the mentors, location, lodging, group gatherings/discussions, and small group workshops, visit the Pen & Paper page on the Be Present Retreats website.

Announcing: Reveal (The Fall Be Present Retreat)

liz lamoreux

I am so thrilled to announce Reveal: the Fall 2010 Be Present Retreat

We will gather in the Pacific Northwest woods, along Puget Sound on the Key Peninsula (a little over an hour south of Seattle), to experience community, dive into play with photography and words, and give ourselves permission to be present while in a nurturing, meditative environment.

Workshops will include:

Open to Exposure: Revealing the Wonder of Our Inner Lives with Madelyn Mulvaney

Revealing the Heart and Soul (with Words) with Susan Wooldridge

Revealing the Wisdom of the Quiet with Liz Lamoreux

To say that I am excited about Maddie and Susan teaching this fall is a bit of an understatement. The three of us will be working together to integrate this theme of reveal into each day of the retreat.

Maddie will help you to uncover pieces of who you are as you look through your camera lens. She will share her world and invite you to look inward to see who you are through images. In this, workshop you will also learn more about Polaroid photography as Maddie gives you a peek inside her secrets.

Susan will gently push you to find the poet waiting to be revealed inside you while bringing in play and joy to the creative process. You will journey inside to explore ways to claim the stories that brought you to this moment. A poetry workshop with Susan is truly unlike any writing workshop you have attended.

And I am thrilled to share some tools to add to your creative toolbox that will invite you to spend time in the quiet as you sift through where you stand on your path.  Our time together will include guided meditations, time outside in our beautiful surroundings, short yoga practices, and other exercises.

At all Be Present Retreats, each day will be a balance of time spent in community and workshops with time for exploration, relaxation, and recharging. We will share delicious and nutritious meals, and we will gather and nurture our creative dreams as we learn, play, and spend time simply breathing.

This will be a small, intimate group with about 15 participant spots available. Registration begins Monday, May 17. I hope you will join us...

brave

i hear...

your beautiful, full, i love life laughter
the waves crash in the background as we sit in the quiet and breathe
you say, "i am?" when someone tells you that yes, you are brave
you whisper your truth
you teach what you know to be true with gentle firmness

i smell...

the sea
the tea lights as they hold the space for each of us
squash soup, autumn, cider
the moment when the rain stopped
rose petals as they dance together

i feel...

the space around my heart with each breath
the sand, firm beneath my feet
your hand upon my head just to check
paint beneath my fingers as the giggle winds its way around my throat
the paper beneath my hand as i write pieces of my truth

i taste...

mug after mug of tea
the salt winding its way from the sea
oreos + milk
oranges, freshly sliced

i see...

your beautiful face smiling through tears
you hold one another
you, yes you, paint (yes. you. did.)
you listen as truth and light is shared between you
you heal (and let go a little bit more)

i know...

you are open
you are brave
you showed up even though you were afraid
you are finding your way
you are beauty, truth, love
