Water Your Soul Ecourse
Come along on a journey to Water Your Soul. We begin April 24 and registration is open!
Here’s what this course is all about:
Your day is often full of so much. Shifting from one role to the next can be rewarding and really hard sometimes. In any given moment, you hold beauty in one hand and messiness in the other. You hold uncertainty and hope. You feel your longings and hold your to-do list.
I call this place where we hold more than one feeling or belief at a time The And Space.
The And Space is where: We find our way amidst the daily routines and the way we want things to be. We open our hearts to the beautiful moments and breathe our way through the heartaches. We feel joy and wonder alongside grief. We hold our loved ones close while trying to make a difference in the world. You aren’t alone in that space.
Yet, as you move through The And Spaces in your life, you can forget about the one person who needs your support most of all: You.
In Water Your Soul, we’ll sit side by side and look at ways you can stay anchored to your deepest wisdom and self-compassion as you make your way in this space.
I want to help you remember how to take care of you so you can show up in the world in the ways you want to. I want to help you deeply water your soul.
But what does water your soul really mean?
It's creating space for you in the midst of whatever the day hands you.
It's paying attention to the world around you and noticing the world inside you.
It's recognizing when you're slipping into old stories and pausing to find your center.
It's blocking out alone time in your planner because you know recharging is non-negotiable.
It's stepping into vulnerability when you look at your partner and say, "I know you're annoyed, but I just really need a hug."
It’s making space for connection in the ways you need.
It's saying "Yes" to pieces of your life that invite in more joy and connection.
It’s an invitation to set down the “I should be able to do it all” insistence and get real about what you need.
It's sitting on the front step for five minutes just to give yourself some space.
It's looking in the mirror and telling the person looking back at you, "I've got you kid."
It's holding the beauty of your life in one hand and the grit of the day in the other and letting yourself feel all the feelings.
It's choosing love even when it feels almost impossible.
Watering your soul is about creating space for you, for your soul care practice, for your needs even as you experience the things life hands you. It's seeking the space in the in-between moments and nourishing yourself. It's saying "Yes" to filling up your internal well, so you can be more present to your life and your loved ones.

How we will do this
This course is directly inspired by my in-person Water Your Soul retreats and I’m going to bring that juicy retreat goodness to where you are right now in your corner of the world. I originally taught this course during the first few weeks of the pandemic in 2020. I’ve revised it with a nod toward the reality that we are not really in a post-pandemic world but rather in a world that continues to feel like too much to hold on many days. This course includes the practices I return to again and again to ground myself, to see myself, to listen to my needs, and to invite in joy & to my daily life while also honoring all that is real. I also guide you in creating a journal to house all that you learn.
In Water Your Soul:
You will use your camera, journaling prompts, and nurturing mindfulness and creative practices to reconnect with yourself.
You will notice what you need and connect in community and with me to remind yourself that you don’t have to go it alone.
You will come away with practices you can use again and again so you can be more present to your loved ones and other things in your life.
During this course we’ll explore:
Each week we explore different places in The And Space and how naming and claiming those spaces helps us. We’ll look at spaces like stillness & action, routines & making space for you, self-compassion & connection with others, kindness & courage, and rest & recharging. We will also look at how we can maintain these practices within our current personal And Spaces.
You will explore ways to use your camera (including self-portraiture) and journaling prompts to help you notice the beautiful, real truths throughout your day. NEW TO THE UPDATED COURSE: I will be sharing how to combine these photos + your words + quotes + images from magazines + lists we will make and so on into a journal that will be in a three-ring binder. More photos of my journal are coming very soon! I’m encouraging you to use a ring binder so you can take your inspiration out of this journal at any time to put it up on your wall or mirror, plus you’ll be able to add to any part of it at any time, and truly create a companion that can be updated and rearranged. There will also be inspiration and worksheets to print throughout the class to add to this binder. Plus I want you to be able to add to your journal long after this class finishes.
We will experience and talk about community care - because self-care alone isn’t enough - and look at ways to reach out and connect and how this can help us meet some of our needs in our daily lives. We will also look closely at self-compassion, which takes your practices even deeper. NEW IN THIS UPDATED VERSION: I have added more opportunities for community connection through additional Zoom calls and two check-ins later in the year (one a Zoom call and one a full week of reconnecting) to help all of us continue to work with these practices. Read on for more.
more Details
Class dates:
April 24 - May 26: Lessons shared in classroom + two Zoom calls
July (date TBD): Community check-in on Zoom
September 18 - 22: Daily prompts in classroom + Zoom check-in
Note: I have decided to move beyond just a few weeks with this course to support you as you implement these practices. This way you can work through the lessons at your pace, check in with us in July, and then come back to our main practices through another week of class together + Zoom call in September. Yes, the main curriculum is delivered over five weeks to create a container for how the information is shared, but the intention truly is to give you space to practice, ask questions, play in your journal, try the different practices shared, go deep with the ones that you really enjoy, and connect with others in a longer amount of time so you don’t feel discouraged that you’re on your own again at the end of our five weeks.
Water Your Soul includes:
Course material in our private classroom: Course lessons will be shared M/W/F each week within our private site (during week 3 and our September check-in week, lessons will be shared daily M-F). Each lesson will help you water your soul through kindness, creativity, mindfulness, and connection. Lessons will include prompts to help you notice where you are in your life right now, what you need, and how you can meet your needs. There will be ideas to help you nourish your mind, body, and heart, stories from my own experience with these practices, journaling + photography prompts, poems I love, and other inspiration sprinkled in throughout. I will also share ideas to help you take what you’re learning and gather it up into a journal so you can revisit it, add to it, and be inspired by your own creativity long after the course ends.
Teaching will be done through a mix of video, audio, and writing. I’ve heard from many of you that you enjoy the video teaching I’ve done in past courses, so I added more into this one.
Course printables: There will be weekly PDFs of worksheets, quotes, and other inspiration that you will be able to download and print to add to your journal or just put up on your walls.
Zoom calls: We will have a total of four Zoom calls this year. Two will take place during our initial five weeks (dates TBD), one will happen in July, and another during our reconnection week in September. These will all be recorded and then put into the classroom so you can watch them if you aren’t able to be on them live and rewatch when you want to.
Facebook group: We'll have an optional private Facebook group where we can share, connect, and support one another. In our group, I'll be working my magic to create the feel of the circles at my retreats, but this part of the course is not required. All the lessons will be presented in the classroom. The Facebook group will be open throughout the year and beyond so you can come back to the community there when you need it.
Reminders that this is a guilt-free zone. Here’s what I mean: What I’ve learned after teaching at retreats and online for more than 14 years is that we sometimes invite in a lot of guilt when we’re trying to make some changes. Life happens. You might not be able to finish every lesson or try every prompt. I will repeatedly and gently remind you that going at your pace is the right one for this course. There’s a reason you’re called to this course, and when that desire is met, you will know. So you might simply read each lesson and journal from time to time. You might try every single prompt and create a journal full of images and words. You might just try the mindfulness techniques I share because you realize they are what you most need. You might work through the course over several months, come back to it once a week after our five weeks ends, or take even longer. YOU GET TO CREATE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE. And I’ll be beside you the whole way.
Tuition: $125
At the end of this class, you will have:
A reconnection with yourself and who you are outside of all the roles you play.
Practices that will nourish you and recharge you whenever you need it.
Creative practices that will invite you into presence and help you tell your story.
Photography prompts that you will be able to turn to daily.
The beginnings of a journaling practice you can continue long after the class.
A journal full of inspiration you can come back to again and again.
A community of kindred spirits to connect with.
Supply list:
A camera: Any will be fine from cell phone to DSLR.
Ring binder, journal or notebook: Consider using a ring binder in a size you like but any journal or notebook will be fine. If you use a binder, you will need some paper to fill it and paper punch so you can put holes in other things you want to add. Your journal will become a place to catch your writing prompts, put your photos, add the weekly printables/worksheets, etc.
A few journaling supplies: Simple supplies will be fine, such as pen, glue stick, magazines for collage, washi tape, etc. You don’t need much. I’ll share some favorites. You will also need a way to print your photos.
20 - 30 minutes set aside for you at least three days a week during our time together. You will probably take more time with these prompts and with our community, but if you only have this time, you will still get so much out of this course.
A willingness to look at yourself, your daily routine, your needs with kindness, honesty, and an open heart.
More Information and Questions you might have
This class is for you if:
You are longing for space and reconnection with yourself.
You are ready to find your creative self again or would like to play with some new prompts and nourishing practices.
You are interested in using a journal (or ring binder) to gather up the journaling + photos you create in this class so you can return to them again and again.
You need permission to fill up your own well so you can be present for others.
You are longing for community and connection and want to practice what that can look like.
You need some reassurance that it's okay to have an awareness of how hard being a human can be sometimes and talk about it and still deeply enjoy your life.
Do I have to be available all five weeks and in September? How long do I have access to the course?
You can go through the course at your pace. New lessons will be available every Monday, Wednesday, Friday during the first five weeks of the course (and again during the reconnection week in September) but you can look at them using a schedule that works for you. Lessons will remain available in our online classroom for at least two years (probably much longer). Some people enjoy working through the course “live” with other students because it keeps them going. Others take their own time. You will know what is best for you.
I’m not on Facebook. Is the community aspect necessary?
You do not have to be part of the Facebook group to learn or get all that you need from this course. It is simply there for class discussions and connection. However, the group does give us a place to practice community care through giving, receiving, listening, sharing, and holding space.
I have several ecourse students who have created a private Facebook profile that they only use for groups, so this is one possibility. Again, though, it isn’t required. You will know if this is a piece you need or want. Listen to that. My groups are one of the things people repeatedly tell me that they enjoy about my ecourses. And each time I teach a course, I have students who don’t join the group but email me check-ins from time to time during the course.
Are we art journaling in this course? Do I need to know how to or make an art journal?
While I will be showing you how I keep all of this juicy information and inspiration in my own version of an art journal, this class does not do a deep dive into art journaling. We will keep a journal to gather our words and photos, and I’ll be available to answer questions about the kind of journaling I like to do. If you love journaling already or already art journal or scrapbook, you will probably have some fun getting creative with these prompts. I will share some simple, fun, easy-to-do ideas to combine your photos and words together through journaling. Plus there will be a couple of optional collage prompts that you can do with magazine images and other ephemera or online with a program like Canva. There will also be PDF printables that you can play with and add to your journal. (Let’s boil it down: You get to make this your adventure and choose which parts make your spirit hum. If creating in your journal is or becomes one of those things, then you will be doing some art journaling. If it isn’t, you won’t be missing out on anything and will still have fun with your journal and the printables I’ll be sharing.)
Is this class like Water Your Mama Soul?
Water Your Mama Soul was a class I loved teaching so much many years ago, and somewhere along the way, I realized the practices in that class really needed to be shared with everyone, no matter your gender or if you identify as a mother. When I went to update WYMS to make it a course for all, I realized I wanted to go much deeper (WYMS was just 10 days long and this course is several weeks). So this updated course was born. A handful of the practices we explore in this course were discussed in Water Your Mama Soul and a few I've shared at my Water Your Soul Retreats. I’m using them again here because they are foundational for this kind of work. And because of the time we have together, we will be going even deeper with these practices. This new course includes videos, new stories and prompts, new practices, and other updates to help you more fully integrate this work into your daily life. If you took Water Your Soul in 2020, many core practices are the same, but there will be new videos plus a whole new take on creating a journal that will become a companion for you long beyond this course.
